UMaT Courses and Requirements. Explore the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) courses and entry requirements for all programs respectively. UMaT courses and cutoff points for this academic year are out. All candidates with interest in being admitted into UMAT should first check the UMaT entry requirements before going ahead with their applications.

The Management of UMAT will like to state categorically that the cutoff points for WASSCE candidates are aggregate 36 and SSCE aggregate 24 respectively. Candidates with scores below these cutoff points will not be considered for admission.

UMaT admission requirements

Faculty of Mining and Minerals Technology

  1. BSc Mining Engineering
  2. BSc Minerals Engineering

Faculty of Geosciences and Environmental Studies

  1. BSc Geomatic Engineering
  2. BSc Geological Engineering
  3. BSc Environmental and Safety Engineering
  4. BSc Land Administration and Information Systems

School of Petroleum Studies

  1. BSc Petroleum Engineering (Fee paying Programme)
  2. BSc Natural Gas Engineering
  3. BSc Petroleum Geosciences and Engineering
  4. BSc Petroleum Refining and Petrochemical Engineering
  5. BSc Chemical Engineering

The entry requirement for the above programmes are as follows:

At least Credits in Core Subjects

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Integrated Science

At least Credits in Electives

  • Physics
  • Mathematics
  • Chemistry
  • Geography

NB:

  • Only Geomatic Engineering applicants can substitute Chemistry with Geography
  • Applicants to BSc Land Administration and Information Systems should have Credits in three Business, General Arts and Science Electives in addition to the above Core Subjects.

Faculty of Engineering

  1. BSc Mechanical Engineering
  2. BSc Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  3. BSc Computer Science and Engineering
  4. BSc Renewable Energy Engineering

The entry requirement for the above programmes are as follows:

At least Credits in Core Subjects

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Integrated Science

At least Credits in Electives

  • Physics
  • Mathematics
  • Chemistry
  • Geography
  • Applied Electricity or Electronics
  • ICT or Computer Studies
  • Technical Drawing or Metal work

NB:

  • Mechanical Engineering applicants can substitute Chemistry with Technical Drawing or Metal Work
  • Applicants to Electrical and Electronic Eng. and Renewable Energy Eng. can Substitute Chemistry with Applied Electricity or Electronics
  • BSc Computer Science and Engineering applicants can Substitute Chemistry with ICT, Computer Studies or Applied Electricity.

Faculty of Mathematics and Statistical Sciences

  1. BSc Mathematics
  2. BSc Statistical Data Science Applicants

The entry requirement for the above programmes are as follows:

At least Credits in Core Subjects

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Integrated Science

At least Credits in three Elective Subjects

  • General Science
    • Physics, Chemistry, Applied Electricity, ICT, Technical Drawing or Metalwork.
  • General Arts
    • Economics and Geography.
  • Business
    • Accounting, Economics and Costing

  • General Arts
    • Economics, ICT, Elective Mathematics, Government and Geography
  • Business
    • Accounting, Business Management, ICT, Economics, Costing and Elective Mathematics

UMaT Mature Applicants

Applicants should be at least 25 years of age and should have SSSC/ WASSC or GCE O’ Level Certificate with credits in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics and a science subject with experience in the relevant area of study. Applicants must pass a written examination and /or an interview. Mature applicants must also possess birth certificates which are, at least, five (5) years old after the date of issue.

UMaT Diploma admission requirements

An applicant must satisfy any of the following:

  1. SSCE Holders: Six Passes (A-D) in all subjects which are English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Physics, Elective Mathematics, Chemistry or Metal Work or Technical Drawing or Applied Electricity or  Applied Electronics.
  2. WASSCE Holders:
  3. Passes (A1-D7) in English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science.
  4. Must possess a minimum of C6 in the following subjects: Physics, Elective Mathematics, Chemistry or Metal Work or Technical Drawing or Applied Electricity or Applied Electronics.

Cost of UMaT application form

The cost of UMaT Admission forms for Ghanaian Applicants are as follows:

  •  BSc Programmes is GHC¢200.00.
  • Diploma Programmes is GHC¢175.00.
  • Certificate Programmes is GHC¢150.00.
