UDS Nursing Top-up Programmes

UDS Nursing Top-up programmes. The University of Development (UDS) Nursing top-up programmes enables actively working nurses to further their studies to gain their degree certificates. Below are the UDS Top-up nursing programmes available for study through the UDS sandwich or modular study options. Be sure to check all UDS health programmes and cut-off points if you are not a nurse but a health practitioner.

UDS Nursing Top-up programmes

Below are the UDS Nursing Top-up programmes and entry requirements

Bachelor of Science (BSc) Midwifery

Applicants to the 3-year BSc Midwifery programme must be a Registered Nurse with a Diploma (RGN), a State Registered Nurse (SRN) or a Registered Midwife (RM) with a post-basic Certificate and in good standing with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana with at least three (3) years post registration work experience. Candidates without three (3) years of work experience are advised not to apply.

International applicants must show evidence of registration with their home Professional Regulatory Bodies. Applicants from non-English speaking countries must also show evidence of English Language proficiency.

Options for study: Modular/Sandwich

Male applicants are encouraged to apply.

Bachelor of Science (BSc) Nurse Practitioner

Applicants to the 3-year BSc Nurse Practitioner programme must be a Registered Nurse with Diploma (RGN), a State Registered Nurse (SRN) or a Registered Mental Nurse (RMN) with Diploma and in good standing with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana with at least three (3) years post registration work experience. Applicants without three (3) years of work experience are advised not to apply.

International applicants must show evidence of registration with their home Professional Regulatory Bodies. Applicants from non-English speaking countries must also show evidence of English Language proficiency.

Bachelor of Science (BSc) General Nursing

Applicants to the 2-year Bachelor of Science (BSc) in General Nursing Programme must be Registered Nurses with a Diploma and in good standing with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana with at least three (3) years post-registration working experience.

International applicants must show evidence of registration with their home Professional Regulatory Bodies. Applicants from non-English speaking countries must also show evidence of English Language proficiency.

Options for study: Modular/Sandwich.

Bachelor of Science (BSc) Midwifery

Applicants to the 2-year Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Midwifery Programme must be Registered Midwives with a Diploma and in good standing with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana with at least three (3) years post-registration working experience.

International applicants must show evidence of registration with their home Professional Regulatory Bodies. Applicants from non-English speaking countries must also show evidence of English Language proficiency.

Options for study: Modular/Sandwich.

Bachelor of Science (BSc) Paediatric Nursing

Applicants to the 2-year Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Paediatric Nursing Programme must be Registered Nurses/Midwives with a Diploma or State Registered Nursing Certificate and in good standing with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana with at least three (3) years post registration work experience. Applicants without three (3) years of working experience are advised not to apply.

International applicants must show evidence of registration with their home Professional Regulatory Bodies. Applicants from non-English speaking countries must also show evidence of English Language proficiency.

UDS Access programmes entry requirements

Below are the UDS access programmes for the UDS School of Nursing.

The UDS Access programmes run for eight(8) weeks and after that, an exam will be conducted for all applicants.

The Eight weeks Access Course programme is offered to both domestic and international applicants who hold certificates in Enrolled Nursing (Nurse Assistant Clinical [NAC]) and Community Health Nursing (Nurse Assistant Preventive [NAP]) to enable them enroll into a 3/4-year BSc Nursing or a 4-year BSc Midwifery Modular/Sandwich programme. Prospective applicants must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana and be in good standing. They must have worked for a minimum of three years.

International applicants must show evidence of registration with their home Professional Regulatory Bodies. Applicants from non-English speaking countries must also show evidence of English Language proficiency.

The following courses will be offered in the UDS access programmes:

  • English Language
  • Core Mathematics
  • Integrated Science
  • Introductory General Physics
  • Introductory General Chemistry
  • Introductory Biology

Admission into BSc Nursing and Midwifery Programmes

Candidates who obtain a pass mark of a minimum of 50% (equivalent to C5) or better in all the above-mentioned courses may apply for admission into the BSc Nursing or BSc Midwifery programme. Successful candidates will be admitted to level 100 and 200 respectively.

Male applicants are encouraged to apply.

The UDS Access programme will run from July through August for a period of eight (8) weeks. The programme will run during weekends only, from Saturdays to Sundays.

UDS Diploma Programmes Entry Requirements

Applicants who apply for any of the UDS diploma programmes should meet the following general entry requirements before they can be offered admission into the institution.

Candidates who do not meet the requirements for UDS Degree programmes are advised to apply for any one of the Diploma programmes (Diploma in  Development Education, Basic Education, Early Childhood, Care and Education, all of which are offered at the Tamale Campus; Diploma in Social Change Communication, Agriculture Technology, Family and Consumer Science, Biotechnology and Molecular Biology, Natural Resource Management are offered on Nyankpala Campus)
•    To be admitted into a Diploma programme, three credit passes in the area of specialization (elective subjects) and at least two passes ( D7 or better) in English Language and Mathematics in WASSCE are required. Any candidate without a pass in English Language and Mathematics (core) need not apply for the Diploma. It is not likely that all candidates with the minimum requirements for Diploma programmes will be admitted. Preference will be given to candidates who have good grades/credit passes.

Candidates, who have met the requirements for Degree programmes (Credits in three electives and three core subjects), but have aggregates that are not good enough may be admitted into Diploma programmes

  1.  Visit any branch of Stanbic Bank, NIB, ADB, GCB, Zenith Bank and Ecobank for your UDS Undergraduate e-Voucher
  2. You can also buy the UDS Undergraduate e-Voucher online here
  3. For first-time users, create a user account by clicking the Sign-Up Tab
  4. Select Undergraduate as your Application Category
  5. Fill in all required fields and click on the Sign-Up button
  6. Once successful, log in with the Username and Password created
  7. You can always log in to check the status of your admission from time-to-time

Cost of UDS Admission Form 2024

Applicants can purchase the University of Development (UDS)  Application form for GHS 200.00 for undergraduates and GHS 250.00 for postgraduates.

UDS Admission Deadline 2024/2025

The closing date for UDS admission is 31 August [curentyear]. Applicants are encouraged to apply before this date since applications that come in at a later date will not be processed.
