This article will assist you with how to complete your NSFAS Online Application for 2024/2025 academic year via the NSFAS Student Portal.

NSFAS Online Application Requirements

Applicants are required to meet the following requirements in order to be  eligible for NSFAS application;

  • Applicant must be a South African Citizen
  • All SASSA grant recipients (the SASSA COVID-19 grant does not count)
  • An applicant’s income must not be more than R350 000 per year
  • Persons with disabilities with a combined household income of not more than R600 000 annually
  • A permanent resident – An individual who has a valid Permanent
  • Residency Permit issued by the Department of Home Affairs in South Africa

Documents Required NSFAS application 2024

You will be required to submit the following documents during the registration process for the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS);

  • A copy of your ID document. (Both sides of the smart ID must be provided)
  • A temporary ID issued by the Department of Home Affairs
  • Non-SASSA applicants must provide ID copies of parents, legal guardian/guardian or spouse,
  • Proof of income applicant and/or parents/legal guardian/spouse (where applicable (non-SASSA) should provide the latest payslip, not older than 3 months, UIF letter appointment letter, retrenchment letter (applicant and/or parent(s) legal guardian/spouse).
  • Your own cellphone number and email address
  • ID copies of parents, guardian, or spouse (If applicable)
  • Your proof of income or 1 year’s IRP5 (Note: no proof of income for SASSA grant recipient)

Note: ID number, Name, and Surname will be validated against the Department of Home Affairs database.

How to Apply for NSFAS Funding Online

This step-by-step guide will assist you in how to apply for the National Student Financial Aid Scheme funding

  1. Access the myNSFAS Portal Login
  2. Click on the myNSFAS tab
  3. Login to myNSFAS account with email and password (learn how to create your NSFAS Account)
  4. Click on the APPLY tab and complete the sections on the screen
  5. Upload required supporting documents where applicable
  6. Preview and Submit
  7. Congratulations, your application should now be submitted

NSFAS Online Status Code

Here are NSFAS Application status notifications and their meaning

  • Application Submitted: The application has been verified by NSFAS
  • Filtering: Checking your qualifications
  • Validation: NSFAS is conducting third-party checks with SASSA and the Department of Home Affairs.
  • Evaluation: NSFAS is verifying all the documents you have submitted during your application.
  • Funding Eligibility: NSFAS is verifying your household financial status that was declared in your application.
  • Awaiting Academic Results/Admission: NSFAS is checking your academic results and your admission status.
  • Awaiting Registration: NSFAS is receiving data from your institution to enable them to create a bursary agreement.
  • The signing of the Agreement: At this stage, you need to sign your bursary agreement so that NSFAS can disburse your allowances.
  • Payments: Allowances have been paid via NSFAS mobile wallet or your institution.

How to Check the Status of Your NSFAS Application 2024

You will be required to keep checking the status of your National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) application from time to time. Follow these procedures to check your NSFAS application status;

  1. Access the myNSFAS Portal Login url nsfas.org.za
  2. Click on myNSFAS on the navigation tab
  3. Enter your Username and Password
  4. Click the Sign In button
  5. Navigate to your NSFAS Dashboard
  6. Click on Track Funding Progress
  7. Wait for the system to load and display the status of your application

NSFAS Application Deadline 2024/2025

National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) online application is open to applicants from 28 September 2024 until 31 January 2025. No applications will be processed after the closing date.
