College of Education Programs and Cut-off Points in Ghana 2022/2023

The college of education was established as the primary institution that has the sole mandate to train teachers for the Ghanaian basic schools aside from universities that run educational programs.

There are over 46 private and government-owned colleges of education across all the regions in Ghana.

 In October 2018, the ministry of education after extensive research agreed to upgrade the college curriculum to run degree programs and also extend the duration of the program from three (3) years to four (4) years. In this article, we will outline all the programs offered at the college of educations (CoE) and the program cut-off points.

General Admission requirements for BACHELOR OF EDUCATION PROGRAMME (B.Ed)

The general admission requirements are the basic minimum requirements that make a student be eligible to enrol in a college of education. 

These requirements differ from each program requirements. Program requirements are requirements that make a student eligible to offer a given program in the CoE. Aside from the general admission requirements, It is also important to check if your grades meet the minimum requirement for the program you want to offer. 

General Admission Requirements

Applicants must possess a WASSCE /SSSCE Qualification

  1. WASSCE Qualification: CREDIT (A1-C6) in Six (6) subjects comprising Three(3) Core subjects that is English Language and Core Mathematics, and Three (3) Elective subjects relevant to the course of study.
  2. SSSCE Qualification: CREDIT (A-D) in Six (6) subjects comprising Three (3) Core subjects, that is English Language and Core Mathematics, and Three(3) Elective subjects relevant to the course of study
  3. Holders of TVET Qualifications: CREDIT in Three Core Subjects including English and Mathematics and PASSES in Three Elective Subjects relevant to the course of study.

B.Ed. GENERAL PROGRAM (With Specializations in Primary and Junior High School)

Qualification

  • WASSCE Applicants

Credit (A1-C6)in Three (3) CORE subjects, including English Language and  Mathematics, and Three (3)  Elective subjects relevant to the course of choice

  • SSCE Applicants

Credit (A-D) in Three (3) CORE subjects including English Language and  Mathematics, and Three (3) Elective subjects relevant to the course of choice

B.Ed. SCIENCE & MATHEMATICS

Qualification

  • WASSCE Applicants

Credit (A1-C6) in Three (3)CORE subjects including English Language and  Mathematics and Three (3) Elective Subjects relevant to the course of choice.

  • SSCE Applicants

Credit (A-D) in Three (3)CORE subjects including English Language and Mathematics and Three (3) Elective Subjects relevant to the course of choice.

 

B.Ed. EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

Qualification

  • WASSCE Applicants

Credit(A1-C6) in Three (3) CORE subjects including English Language and  Mathematics and Three (3) Elective Subjects relaxant to the course of choice

  • SSCE Applicants

Credit (A-D) in Three (3) CORE subjects including English Language and Mathematics and Three (3) Elective Subjects relevant to the course of choice

 B.Ed. FRENCH

Qualification

  • WASSCE Applicants

     Credit(A1-C6) in Three (3)CORE subjects including English Language and  Mathematics and Three (3) Elective subjects including FRENCH.

  • SSCE Applicants

Credit (A-D) in Three (3) CORE subjects including English Language and  Mathematics and Three(3) Elective subjects including FRENCH.

 

 B.Ed. TECHNICAL/VOCATIONAL

Qualification

  • WASSCE Applicants

CREDIT in Three (3)CORE subjects including English Language and  Mathematics and PASSES three (3) Elective subjects relevant to the Technical/ Vocational Course

  • SCE Applicants

Subjects including English Language and Mathematics and Three Elective Subjects relevant to the Technical/ Vocational Course

 Entry requirements for Applicants with Special Needs 

  • VISUALLY IMPAIRED
